Who we are
The staff members of the Glenstantia Community Library and Information Services and members of the Glenstantia Community Library User Interest Group are a group of dedicated people who want to invite you to use our library and sevices to enhance your reading, life long learning, communication and knowledge gathering experiences.
Membership of GLUIG is open to any registered user of the Glenstantia Library Service.

What we do
Fund Raising
- To raise funds for use in improving all aspects of the Glenstantia Library service.
- To manage efficiently all funds contributed by the public to GLUIG.
- To scrupulously avoid mixing of City funds with voluntary donations.
- To account for the donation and use of all contributions.
- To seek sponsorship and financial support from the commercial sector.
- To promote and run fund raising events.
Librarianship
- To seek a deeper understanding of librarianship.
- To develop an understanding of the statistics related to the library's collection, its patrons and its activities.
- To promote amongst the youth a deeper appreciation of the library and its value, especially as an aid to their curricular requirements.
- To promote reading skills.
Relationship with City Authorities
- To strive for a friendly and co-operative relationship with those elements of the city management which deal with Library affairs.
- To establish channels through which the public's views on Library related issues can effectively be conveyed to authority.
- To participate in civic affairs which relate to the library and its service to the community.
Assistance
- To assist the regular Library staff in the discharge of their daily activities.
- To understand the cataloguing systems in use.
- To identify and prioritise the needs of the library in consultation with the library staff.
Future Expansion
- To participate in planning for the future size, shape and facilities of the library.
- To help direct the expansion of the collection so as to meet scholastic and social needs.
Events and Facilities
- To sponsor public meetings on subjects of significant interest to the local community.
- To sponsor speakers who can cover subjects of significant interest to the local community.
- To promote visits by schools as a means of fostering a healthy understanding of libraries and their facilities.
